Allen Ross is passionate about the creation of the built environment, from intricate details to site planning. Dedicated to serving his clients through an open, collaborative process, Allen’s keen eye for detail and design shows through in every project. As he states, “reaching inspired solutions through an understanding of the unique circumstances and aspirations of each client is a wonderful experience…” and an essential piece of every project. This is the inspiration on which the Allen Ross Architecture firm foundation was built. Since the opening of his firm in February of 2013, Allen Ross places special focus on projects that give back to the community.
Allen Ross Architecture has been awarded nearly every year for its green initiatives, including but not limited to, the preservation of historic properties and land. And the firm’s work, values and policies are exemplary of their devotion to the local community. Most of the firm’s staff live in Gardiner or the surrounding New Paltz area, many of them born and raised here with strong community connections. A prime example of Allen Ross’ unwavering devotion to community outreach is the New Paltz Plattekill Avenue Park initiative. Built by the hands of volunteers, the new park was reliant on the work of willing community members. As a result, Allen Ross gave all of his staff time off to assist in building the playground, providing their unique design and build expertise. The firm is currently assisting the new owner of a long-shuttered prime retail space in Gardiner in once again making it a vibrant anchor of the community.
In addition to their dedication to community projects that benefit the exuberance of the community, Allen Ross Architecture is being pro-active in addressing climate change. They are currently helping the Village of New Paltz explore the adoption of NYStretch, a more energy efficient building code developed by NYSERDA. Adopting this code will result in improved energy efficiency and allow the town to continue to lead in measures addressing climate change. And in 2018/19, Allen Ross Architecture provided pro bono services to design a public park for the unsightly municipal parking lot at the corner of Main Street and North Chestnut Street in New Paltz.
When asked why Allen enjoys working in and being part of the Gardiner community, his answer was simple: “It is a unique place filled with people who are passionate about its charms- and we are excited to apply our creative skills in helping them find unique solutions.”
